Rihanna set to drop new music from Black Panther 2 soundtrack: ‘She’s about to eat!’

Rihanna and the Black Panther

Marvel has seemingly confirmed Rihanna is making her comeback this Friday, 28 October, with music for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Although there has been heavy speculation of Rihanna’s involvement for a while, a new teaser released by Marvel has confirmed what everyone was thinking. She’s officially back.

The 15-second video shows the full title of the film before the other letters fade away leaving just the “R”, along with the date 28 October.

Rihanna’s last album Anti dropped in 2016 and, aside from a brief appearance in rapper PartyNextDoor’s song “Believe It” in 2020, has been absent from the music scene for almost seven years.

Unfortunately, the teaser gives very little information about what to expect with no sound, a caption consisting of the side eye emoji, and barely confirming it is even Rihanna they are talking about.

There have been rumours that Rihanna has recorded two songs for the upcoming Marvel film, with one of them for the end credits.

Telvin Lewis, the Disney playlist curator for Wakanda Forever, tweeted: “I’ve had the chance to listen to both songs and all I can ‘legally’ say is… vocal RiRi is HEREEE!! She’s about to eat!”

New York Times journalist Kyle Buchanan also confirmed Rihanna’s plans for the end credit song.

He tweeted: “How do you follow up a classic like ‘All the Stars’? By snagging Rihanna’s first big song in years.

“If nothing else, this adds significant new Oscar contender to an original-song race that already includes big names like Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift and Billie Eilish.”

While Rihanna has been building her business empire, Fenty, after taking a step back from music, this Black Panther news sets the stage for her return with a bang.

After this drops, she is also confirmed as the headline act of the 2023 Super Bowl halftime show in February so Rihanna fans have much to look forward to.

Of course, RiRi stars are freaking out about her return and have taken to Twitter to share their excitement.

Some have joked about “surviving the Rihanna drought” while others are still trying to process the news.

“Rihanna’s comeback starting out with the Wakanda Forever soundtrack is genius and insane because I never would’ve thought,” one fan wrote.

While another simply added: “Rihanna is back. The Queen of pop is back!”
