Tommy Dorfman has finally opened up about her long-suspected ‘short-lived romance’ with 13 Reasons Why co-star Brandon Flynn in her new memoir.
Tommy Dorfman, who starred in Netflix’s adaptation of popular novel 13 Reasons Why alongside Brandon Flynn, before coming out as trans in 2021, has spilled on the pair’s “short-lived romance” and “unexpected jealousy” that came after their split.
In her new memoir, Maybe This Will Save Me, Dorfman explained that she became enamoured with Flynn while the pair were portraying Ryan Shaver and Justin Foley, respectively, in the drama, which ran from 2017 to 2020.
Dorfman writes in the memoir, which is out now, that while smoking a cigarette during a cast party, she “looked up to find Brandon had joined [her].”
“His boyish tipsy charm was intoxicating, he carried confidence with ease, and his blue eyes sparkled, perhaps this is what people meant when they said star quality. Whatever it was, Brandon embodied it,” she continues, detailing an “undeniable charge” between the pair.
“We held each other’s gaze for what felt like forever, and next thing I knew, we were up in his bedroom, ripping each other’s clothes off,” Dorman continues. “It was lusty and fun in the most beautiful, magical of ways.”
The relationship, which fans long suspected but was never publicly confirmed by the pair, ended because Dorfman “couldn’t offer more than casual fun” – but experienced “unexpected jealousy” when Flynn then went on to date mutual co-star Miles Heizer.
“Seeing Miles and Brandon so in love sparked an unexpected jealousy in me, a yearning for that excitement and fire, perhaps even more serious feelings lingered for Brandon at that time, but I couldn’t do anything about it,” she writes. “My bed was made, and I needed to focus on the task at hand: memorizing my lines.”
Flynn also briefly dated singer Sam Smith in 2017 to 2018.
Dorfman recently reportedly filed for divorce from her wife Elise Williams (16 May) according to online court documents, originally obtained by PEOPLE. The pair were married for nearly two years.
The split between the Love, Victor and Romeo + Juliet star and her wife comes five months after Dorfman hinted at their break-up in a cryptic Instagram post on 29 December, in which the actress reflected on a turbulent year.
