Jenna Ortega’s Wednesday drops sickening character posters – with big hints at season two’s plot

Jenna Ortega is back as Wednesday season two (Netflix)

Wednesday season two is nearly here, and though the torture wait is set to continue just a little bit longer, some spooky new posters have dropped – giving away some big hints at Jenna Ortega’s character arc.

Sharpen your reflexes, pupils, because we’re heading back to Nevermore Academy in the fast approaching season two of Netflix’s Wednesday.

Starring Jenna Ortega as the moodiest day of the week and daughter of the iconic Addams Family, Wednesday‘s first season blasted records on the streaming service in 2022, being renewed pretty quickly – with the help of a viral Lady Gaga dance, the ‘Wenclair’ ship and a sickening cast.

It’s that sickening cast, though, that has received a new sneak peek (11 June) with some official character posters, hot on the heels of the season’s first proper look.

Posted to Netflix’s official X account, ten separate posters for several residents of Nevermore Academy and beyond have teased characters returning and new, and some pretty big hints at various plot points.

Ortega’s Wednesday is, of course, first and foremost – but that black gunk dribbling from her eyes, which she referred to as a “minor psychic glitch” in the first six minutes of the series, is back. Could Wednesday be in trouble with her powers?

‘Powers’ is the word of the day; nearly every new character poster gives viewers a hint at the supernatural mayhem to befall Nevermore, with each pupil (and new staff member) giving it some flair.

Emma Myers is back as Enid Sinclaire, complete with very long, colourful werewolf talons, Joy Sunday’s Bianca Barclay is emitting a red, hypnotic glow, Isaac Ordonez seems to have new electrical powers as Puglsey Addams and Moosa Mostafa’s Eugene Ottinger is at one with the fireflies.

Elsewhere, queer star Hunter Doohan‘s Tyler Galpin is in a straitjacket after his season one fate and Steve Buscemi’s new Prinicipal Dort is introduced (complete with flaming finger). In fact, Georgie Farmer’s Ajax Petropolus, and Catherine Zeta-Jones and Luis Guzman’s Morticia and Gomez Addams, who share a poster, seem the only ‘powerless’ posters. There’s also one for Thing.

So what could all of these powers mean for season two of Wednesday? We’re not sure – but we doubt everything will go to plan.

Wednesday season two also received an Addams Family portrait in May; alongside Jenna Ortega, Zeta-Jones, Guzmán, Ordonez and series newcomer Joanna Lumley as Grandmama Hester Frump, it features Joonas Suotamo as Lurch and Fred Armisen as Uncle Fester.

There has still been no glimpse at Billie Piper‘s new character, Isadora Capri, who is billed as Nevermore’s new Head of Music on Netflix’s site.

Crucially, Wednesday season two will also star mother monster herself, Lady Gaga, in an as-yet-undisclosed role – and there’s been no glimpse of her, either.

Wednesday season two is dropping in two parts; Part 1 is coming to Netflix on 6 August, and Part 2 will hit the platform 3 September.
