Lana Del Rey has confirmed that her long-awaited country album Lasso has a new name, Stove, and has confirmed its release date.
The alt-pop singer-songwriter previously announced her plans to try country music on for size with the upcoming record, which is no longer going by the name Lasso.
Although the album was set to be released in the spring, the star has since postponed Stove so that six more songs could be added. It is now set to be released at the end of January, as per W Magazine.
Speaking to the outlet, the “Say Yes To Heaven” singer revealed why the album “took more time” than she had initially anticipated.
“They were more autobiographical than I thought, and that took more time,” she said. “The majority of the album will have a country flair.
“Eight years ago, when I was looking to make a country record, no one else was thinking about country,” she said, revealing that she considered releasing an album of covers titled Country & Western but instead decided to write original songs.
“Now everyone is going country! I’ve asked myself, Should I retire all my snakeskin boots? Should I put my cowboy hats in storage?”
Del Rey previously announced the album, which was then-titled Lasso, at Billboard’s pre-Grammy event in January last year, which was due for release in September 2024.
The star told InStyle in October that an “energetic” change in the “musical atmosphere” caused Del Rey to halt the album. “The songs I have, I love; I don’t want to turn it into something that’s half-cooked.”
Last November, she took to Instagram to announce that the album, then-renamed to The Right Person Will Stay, would be released on 21 May 2025. Though that never came to fruition.
Her upcoming album follows her critically acclaimed 2023 album, Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd.
