Marjorie Taylor Greene has announced that she’s cancelling her Netflix subscription over – wait for it – a five-year-old clip of a trans storyline from The Baby-Sitters Club.
Taking to X, Greene shared the clip, which shows a trans girl, Bailey, being defended in a medical setting by another character called Mary Anne. The episode, from season one, was called “Mary Anne Saves the Day” and first aired on July 3, 2020. The second, and final, season of the show aired in 2021.
Greene reposted the clip from notorious right-wing X account Libs of TikTok who claimed the show “pushes transgenderism on kids, shames characters for ‘misgendering’ and demands hospital staff refer to treat a boy as a girl”.
HOLY SHIT. Show on @Netflix “The Baby-Sitters Club" pushes TRANSGENDERISM on KIDS, shames characters for "misgendering" and demands hospital staff refer to and treat a boy as a girl.

The Georgia Republican representative captioned the clip, “Yep canceled”.
Right-wingers under the post united in sharing that they too have cancelled their Netflix subscriptions amid the conservative call to boycott the platform over LGBTQ+ inclusivity in shows.
But one comment went against the tide and called out the conservative-led backlash against inclusivity, describing it as “narrow-minded”.
The comment read: “Better yet… let’s cancel all you bigots that do nothing except spread hate. You’re so closed and narrow minded, exactly what this country DOESN’T need. It’s part of why Klan MAGA has destroyed this nation.”

Why are right-wingers cancelling Netflix?
The right-wing calls to boycott Netflix initially stemmed from the conservative social media account Libs of TikTok and its fixation on shows that feature LGBTQ+ inclusivity.
On 30 September, Elon Musk took to X to announce that he had cancelled his Netflix account after Libs of TikTok criticised trans-inclusive show Dead End: Paranormal Park, which was cancelled more than two years ago, as well as comments made by its queer creator.
Hamish Steele‘s Netflix animation faced backlash for having trans representation, with infamous gender-critical X account Gays Against Groomers also sharing video clips from the show, claiming it “pushes trans ideology”.
Musk, who has a transgender daughter, has also taken to slamming other TV shows for trans inclusion, while continuing to urge his 227 million followers on X to cancel their Netflix subscriptions over claims of the platform “sexualising children” and pushing alleged “transgender propaganda”.
The pile-on has prompted right-wing figures to announce that they are cancelling their Netflix subscriptions, with US representative Tim Burchett even threatening to force Netflix executives to testify before congress.
The backlash has prompted Zach Barack, who provided the voice for Barney, a gay, trans teen boy who finds a new job as a security guard at an amusement park with a haunted house, to claim the character had “saved lives”.
