It’s a busy day to be a Swiftie! Taylor Swift fans have spotted that the lyrics to two of her tracks have been altered. Meanwhile, the first two episodes of her docuseries, The End of an Era, have just dropped.
Two tracks from her 2017 album Reputation have had their lyrics revised on Apple Music after the platform updated Swift’s albums to Dolby Atmos sound. “I Did Something Bad” and “Delicate” are the tracks impacted.
On “I Did Something Bad”, the 35-year-old Grammy winner sang: “But if he drops my name, then I owe him nothin’ / And if he spends my change, then he had it comin’.”
Now, the lyrics have changed to: “If a man talks s***, then I owe him nothin’ / And if he calls me a b****, then he had it coming.”
Similarly, “Delicate” has also undergone a lyrical change. Originally, Swift sang: “Oh, damn, never seen that color blue.”
Now, she can be heard singing: “Goddamn, never seen that color blue.”
The Swifties quickly latched onto this change and began speculating as to whether the lyrics changes point to Reputation (Taylor’s Version). Swift’s “Taylor’s Version” re-releases saw the artist rerecord all her albums, except Reputation and her self-titled debut. This was after her former record label, Big Machine, sold the records’ masters. However, now, Swift has regained control of her masters.
‘My clown theory is that we’re getting Reputation vault tracks.’
Another spanner in the works is that Swift announced to fans that she didn’t intend to go ahead with Reputation’s re-release.
“The Reputation album was so specific to that time in my life, and I kept hitting a stopping point when I tried to remake it,” she announced to fans earlier this year.
“All that defiance, that longing to be understood while feeling purposefully misunderstood, that desperate hope, that shame-born snarl and mischief.
“To be perfectly honest, it’s the one album in those first six that I thought couldn’t be improved upon by redoing it. Not the music or photos or videos. So, I kept putting it off. There will be a time (if you’re into the idea) for unreleased vault tracks from that album to hatch.”
However, Swift fans are no strangers to Easter eggs and theories are spiralling.
“My clown theory is that we’re getting Reputation vault tracks and originally written/unedited lyrics updated on album tracks,” said one fan.
“Probably recorded with Max Martin and Shellback while working on TLOAS because Taylor Swift is a genius business woman artist queen?????” they continued.
“Why is no one talking about this!!!” Another posted. “Is this our RepTV VAULT?”
