2025 was a slightly tough year for people who believe in the enduring power of love, as a whole host of high-profile celebrity couples unexpectedly (to us, anyway) decided to break up.
Let’s be honest, if someone told you at the beginning of this year that Katy Perry would split up with Orlando Bloom and end up dating none other than former Canadian PM Justin Trudeau, your reaction would probably be something along the lines of “WTF” or “no way” or “have you been drinking?” or words to that effect.
Without further ado, here are 14 celebrity breakups that took place in 2025:
Peregrine Pearson and Sophie Turner

After her high-profile split from Joe Jonas in 2023, Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner began dating wealthy British aristocrat Peregrine Pearson, heir to the Pearson media empire. Unfortunately, they also broke up, reportedly for good, in mid 2025. According to Cosmopolitan, the break up was first heralded when Sophie shared a cryptic message to her IG Stories reading, “tutto passa,” meaning “everything passes” in Italian.
She’s since been romantically linked to Coldplay frontman Chris Martin.
JoJo Siwa and Kath Ebbs

The second 2025 celebrity breakup on our list was a very public one that pretty much no one saw coming, and it caused jaws to collectively drop on both sides of the Atlantic. It all started when JoJo Siwa entered the Celebrity Big Brother UK house in April 2025, and formed a very strong bond with former Love Island contestant Chris Hughes, despite the fact she was in a relationship with non-binary influencer Kath Ebbs.
Chris and JoJo were filmed cuddling in bed, scratching each others’ backs, holding hands and embracing, sparking speculation of a romance and leading to Ebbs to being trolled that she was being cheated on.
JoJo and Kath reportedly split up at the Celebrity Big Brother wrap party, and JoJo and Chris are now an item.
Trixie Mattell and David Silver

OK so this break up actually took place in 2024, but Trixie didn’t really open up about it until mid-2025 so we’ve decided that it deserves to be included in this list.
During an August 2025 conversation with British pop star Paloma Faith on her podcast Mad, Sad and Bad with Paloma Faith, the 35-year-old RuPaul’s Drag Race winner said that there were times when she “couldn’t even get [her] makeup on” after the break up because she was crying so much.
Trixie Mattel and David Silver opened a joint business venture, Trixie Motel, and appeared on the subsequent Discovery+ docuseries Trixie Motel together.
“Because of the way TV works, we had filmed a whole season of television about us and our home but we had since separated. One of the craziest I’d ever felt was that being on TV but that relationship not being in place anymore. It was like your secret that that relationship wasn’t happening anymore.”
Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman

In September 2025, Nicole Kidman shocked, well, pretty much everyone when it was revealed that her nearly 20-year marriage to Keith Urban had come to an end. E! News bnoke the news, confirming that she and the “Somebody Like You” singer had been living apart “since the beginning of summer.”
The pair’s last public appearance was at the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 in Nashville in June 2025, where they were seen laughing and smiling. Since the break up, Nicole hasn’t been letting her relationship woes hold her back; it was recently announced that she will co-chair the 2026 Met Gala with Beyonce and Venus Williams.
Maggie Thurmon and Benson Boone

Singer Benson Boone and actress/influencer Maggie Thurmon also split in September 2025 after about two years together, following some cryptic social media posts. The couple, who went public in March 2024, unfollowed each other on Instagram.
Benson made emotional comments about people leaving his life at around the same time, then, in October, Maggie posted a TikTok that seemed to suggest Benson had cheated on her.
Bretman Rock and Justice Fester

In August 2025, social media personality Bretman Rock announced that he and Justice Fester have broken up.
The beauty influencer made the announcement on Instagram on 5 August after receiving questions from fans online. “It’s all love,” he told them.
In a post spread across two stories, Rock said: “This video is extremely hard for me to make, so please bear with me. I understand that I’ve always shared my life with you guys, my day-to-day, my family, down to my relationship. And since a lot of you guys have been asking where Justice is, I wanted to quickly address that we are no longer together.”
Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom

Pop star Katy Perry and Lord of the Rings star Orlando Bloom officially announced they had split up in July this year, six years after getting engaged. They share a young daughter named Daisy Dove. In a joint statement released at the time, the former couple’s representatives said that they had “been shifting their relationship over the past many months to focus on co-parenting. They will continue to be seen together as a family as their shared priority is- and always will be – raising their daughter with love, stability and mutual respect.”
In December 2025, Katy Perry officially revealed she is dating former Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau.
Terrence O’Connor and Benito Skinner

In October 2025 Benito Skinner announced the breakup of his relationship with Terrence O’Connor, a photographer and creative director known for his work with Charli XCX, after nine years of dating.
The actor and comedian, 31, announced the news via his podcast, RIDE, which he hosts with his friend and Overcompensating co-star, Mary Beth Barone.
In an episode released on 22 October Skinner – aka Benny Drama – addressed the news head on “I will say that we both just love each other so much and have so much love and respect for each other,” Skinner said, and added that they treated one another with “until the end.”
He also urged fans to not stop believing in love, which he explained people had commented they’d do over the years if the pair ever broke up. “I would strongly urge to not do that,” he said adding that being with “someone so special to me for nine years,” was proof of love.
Skinner went on to say he was “unbelievably lucky” to have met O’Connor as well as his family.
Rami Malek and Emma Corrin

Another high-profile couple to call it quits in 2025 were Oscar-winner Rami Malek and non-binary The Crown star Emma Corrin. Back in April 2025, The Mail on Sunday revealed that Rami Malek, who won his Oscar for playing queer icon Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody, had ended his two-year relationship with Emma.
It’s not clear what prompted the breakup, although reports suggest they split up at around the same time Rami had commissioned a specially designed ring to give to Emma: it’s not clear if it was an engagement ring or not.
Jonathan Davino and Sydney Sweeney

Earlier this year, Euphoria star Sydney Sweeney split from ex fiancé Jonathan Davino after seven years together. She confirmed the breakup in May in an interview with the Sunday Times, saying: “I’m learning a lot about myself, spending more time with my friends, and I’m loving it.”
Sydney, who recently portrayed famed lesbian boxer Christy Martin in the movie Christy, first got together with businessman Jonathan Davino in 2018. As well as dating, they’ve also worked alongside each other: Jonathan co-produced 2023 film Anyone But You with Sydney.
Lily Allen and David Harbour

Singer Lily Allen and Stranger Things star David Harbour met on celebrity dating app Raya in 2019. Lily moved her two daughters from London to New York to live with David, but the pair split up in December 2024, and announced their separation in February 2025.
Their breakup made even bigger headlines later in the year after Lily released her new album West End Girl on 24 October: a no-holds-barred account the aftermath of their separation. The singer reportedly wrote the entire record in just 10 days last December, immediately after the pair’s break up, and features some eye-opening insights into the relationship.
Amy Schumer and Chris Fischer

A very recent addition to the 2025 celeb breakups list is Amy Schumer. Just five days ago, on 13 December, she announced she’d split up with her husband of seven years, professional chef Chris Fischer. According to the BBC, the Trainwreck star announced the news on social media, alongside a photo of the two of them, that they had made the “difficult decision” to split and will continue to focus on raising their son, who is six.
“Amicable and all love and respect! Family forever,” she said.
Omer Fedi and Addison Rae

In October 2025, news emerged that actress/singer Addison Rae and Grammy award-winning producer Omer Fedi had broken up after four years together, according to ET.
The publication quoted a source who claimed that Addison wants to focus more on her career; but that there’s no bad blood between the pair and that they still keep in touch. At the time of writing, neither Omer or Addison have publicly commented on the end of their relationship.
Quinta Brunson and Kevin Anik

Abbott Elementary star Quinta Brunson and her husband Kevin Anik’s three-and-a-half year marriage ended this year as well. Quinta filed for divorce in March 2025 in Los Angeles; “Irreconcilable differences” were cited as the cause. Details about the break up are pretty scarce: Quinta always kept her relationship pretty private, and it seems as if she’s doing the same for her divorce, too, however, it was reported that they’d reached a settlement in September, agreeing to an uncontested divorce and using their postnuptial agreement for property division.
