The iconic Kathryn Hahn has sent sapphics into hysterics over rumours she’s set to play Mother Gothel in Disney’s live-action Tangled. And apparently we’ve got lesbians to thank for it.
The 53-year-old star, known for Agatha All Along and WandaVision, is reportedly in talks to play the villainous character. Mother Gothel is the antagonist of Tangled, the 2010 animated film based on the historic fairy tale Rapunzel; a manipulative woman with an unhealthy obsession with staying young.
News about Hahn’s potential casting has intensified after it was confirmed that the roles of Rapunzel and Flynn Rider have been cast. Titans‘ Teagan Croft will be playing the golden-haired princess, while Zombies’ Milo Manheim is the rebellious thief Flynn Rider.
Tangled sees the captured princess escape the tower she’s been trapped in for as long as she can remember with the help of Rider. Mother Gothel has kept Rapunzel locked away to harvest the magical power of the young woman’s hair to keep herself from aging.
The Greatest Showman director Michael Gracey is attached to direct with the script by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, based on the 2010 animated feature.
If the live-action also features musical numbers, that’d mean that Hahn will be taking on the extremely catchy “Mother Knows Best” track.
‘Lesbians will be at the cinema for mother gothel hahn’
Referencing that song, one fan reacted to the potential casting with the post: “Its actually Lesbians Know Best because we manifested the Mother Gothel casting.”
They’re not alone; many flocked online to share their excitement about Hahn potentially playing Mother Gothel. Hahn’s sapphic fans already call her Mother, so she’s ready for the role.
“MOTHER HAHN AS MOTHER GOTHEL IS FINALLY HAPPENING LET’S GO LESBIANS,” one fan wrote. Their post included a fan edit that cuts between Mother Gothel and Hahn playing Agatha Harnkness in Agatha All Along and WandaVision, noting the similarities.
That comparison was also shared by another fan who posted side-by-side images. Their caption reads: “lesbians will be at the cinema for mother gothel hahn bye.”
“The concept of getting kathryn hahn as mother gothel after manifesting for years like there is NOTHING lesbians can’t do,” another posted.
