Fire Island star Joel Kim Booster has married his partner, video game producer John Michael Sudsina, after four years together.

The couple, who were introduced by mutual friends during a holiday to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico in 2021, said their vows in front of friends and family, including Las Culturistas hosts Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers, in a ceremony on 30 December.

The pair got hitched during a ceremony at the interactive science museum Exploratorium in San Francisco.

“Feeling very lucky that I can honestly say my wedding was the best day of my life, no contest. I’ve never felt so certain and so loved,” Booster, 37, wrote in a heartfelt Instagram post on 13 January, alongside a host of sweet photos from the ceremony.

He went on to thank those involved in planning the wedding, and rounded off by promising that more adorable photos would be on the way.

“More pictures will be coming, in fact I might never stop. I’m just really happy,” he wrote.

The actor and comedian, who is best known for writing and starring as Noah in Andrew Ahn’s 2022 queer comedy movie Fire Island, proposed to Sudsina in September 2024 during a trip to Jeju Island, South Korea, where Booster was born.

During an interview with The New York Times, Sudsina, who works in video game production at Riot Games, confirmed that he would be taking Booster’s last name.

“I feel when I’m with Joel, I’m in a romcom,” he told the publication.

“It’s always an adventure. And I love that we both have already worked through so much and continue to meet new versions of each other and continue to grow together. I think he’s going to be an amazing father, an amazing partner, an amazing friend.”

During their chat with the newspaper, the pair shared that they initially bonded over their love of musicals, spending hours chatting on the subject during a night out in Puerto Vallarta.

At the time, Sudsina wanted to be single, while Booster was looking to settle down. It was watching the final cut of Fire Island in late 2021 which convinced Sudsina to commit to the relationship, as Booster had edited the end of the script after being inspired by their time together in Mexico.

Shortly after, they were officially an item.
