Freddie Mercury’s alleged ‘secret’ daughter has died aged 48 after being diagnosed with a rare spinal cancer.

The existence of Bibi – initially known only as ‘B’ – was first revealed last year ahead of Lesley-Ann Jones’ book Love, Freddie. The legendary Queen singer died in 1991 due to complications related to AIDs.

Thomas, Bibi’s widower, confirmed her death in a statement to The Daily Mail on Thursday (15 January). He said she died “peacefully after a long battle with chordoma, a rare spinal cancer, leaving two sons aged nine and seven.

“B is now with her beloved and loving father in the world of thoughts. Her ashes were scattered to the wind over the Alps.”

Reacting to the news, Jones told the Mail: “I am devastated by the loss of this woman who became my close friend, who had come to me with a selfless aim: to brush aside all those who have had free rein with Freddie’s story for 32 years, to challenge their lies and their rewriting of his life, and to deliver the truth.”

Jones also told the Mail that Bibi’s cancer first developed when she was “very young” and that “she had been in remission for some years when it reared again.” This led Bibi to contact Jones about working on Love, Freddie.

Stating that Bibi was “very ill” while working on the book, Jones said it was “all that mattered to her”. Jones added: “She put herself and her own needs last.”

In the book, supposedly based on 17 volumes of journals given to Bibi before Mercury died, it’s stated that she was conceived after the “Killer Queen” singer had an affair with a married woman. He apparently chose to keep her existence a secret with only a few people, including Mercury’s Queen bandmates, supposedly knowing of her.

In one passage Bibi says Mercury “adored me and was devoted to me”. She also said: “He cherished me like a treasured possession.” It’s also claimed the Queen songs “Bijou” and “Don’t Try So Hard” were written about Bibi.

The account has been questioned by some, including Mercury’s ex-partner and close friend, Mary Austin. Last August she told The Times: “I’ve never known of any child, or of any diaries. If Freddie had indeed had a child without me knowing anything about it, that would be astonishing to me.”

Anita Dobson, Brian May’s wife, similarly poured cold water on Bibi’s claims. She told The Telegraph: “Brian thinks it’s a load of rubbish.”

Last year, Bibi allegedly took a paternity test to verify her claims but the results have not been made public.

Jones responded to calls to make the results public by saying: “Please rest assured that the requisite verification was obtained, legal teams have been involved, but that such measures are private & not shared publicly.”
