Katy Perry is reportedly under investigation by Victoria Police following an allegation of sexual assault made against her by Australian actor Ruby Rose this week.
On 12 April, Rose posted to Threads alleging that Perry had assaulted her in 2010. “Katy Perry sexually assaulted me at Spice Market nightclub in Melbourne. Who gives a s*** what she thinks,” she replied to a post about the singer’s reaction to Justin Bieber’s Coachella set.
When someone responded referencing Perry’s song ‘I Kissed a Girl’, Rose told them: “She didn’t kiss me. She saw me ‘resting’ on my best friend’s lap to avoid her and bent down, pulled her underwear to the side and rubbed her disgusting vagina on my face until my eyes snapped open and I projectile vomited on her.”
Rose also shared that she had been to the police station this week to report the incident.
Victoria Police have now confirmed that detectives from the Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team are investigating a “historic sexual assault that occurred in Melbourne in 2010”. However, they have not confirmed details about the identities of those involved, as per Star Observer.
In a statement shared on 16 April, Victoria Police said: “Police have been told the incident occurred at a licensed premises in Melbourne’s CBD. As the investigation remains ongoing, it would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage.”
Rose received an outpouring of support on social media after sharing the allegations against Perry.
‘I can start the healing process now’
The actor shared an update on the incident to her Threads account on 14 April, following her trip to the police station. “As of this afternoon, I have finalised all of my reports. This means I am no longer able to comment, repost, or talk publicly about any of those cases, or the individuals involved,” she said.
“It’s going to look like I am ignoring everything from supportive messages, to other people’s experiences, but I’m not,” Rose continued. “This is a standard request from the police and in many ways, quite the relief. I can start the healing process now. And temporarily move forward. I love you all so much.”
Perry has denied the allegations, and a representative for the singer responded on 14 April, providing a statement to PinkNews.
“The allegations being circulated on social media by Ruby Rose about Katy Perry are not only categorically false, they are dangerous reckless lies,” the statement reads.
“Ms Rose has a well-documented history of making serious public allegations on social media against various individuals, claims that have repeatedly been denied by those named.”
