“All About That Bass” singer Meghan Trainor has cancelled her “Get In Girl” tour. The singer has now offered an explanation after some rumours that it was due to “low ticket sales”.
On Friday (17 April), the 32-year-old pop singer shared a message online apologising to fans about the tour cancellation. Trainor cited that the decision was informed by wanting to balance work and family after welcoming a new baby.
In January, the Grammy-winning artist welcomed her third child with her husband, Daryl Sabara, via surrogate.
“After a lot of reflection and some really tough conversations, I’ve made the difficult decision to cancel The Get In Girl Tour,” Trainor wrote.
“Balancing the release of a new album, preparing for a nationwide tour and welcoming our new baby girl to our growing family of five has just been more than I can take on right now and I need to be home and present for each and all of them at this time.”
In her message, she also apologised for letting down her fans. “I know this will come as a disappointment to my fans, and I am so sorry to let you down,” she continued.
‘I promise I’ll be back soon.’
“But I know this is the right decision for my family and me right now. I promise I’ll be back soon, and I can’t wait for you to hear this new record. I’m so proud of it, and I’m endlessly grateful for your love and support always.”
Trainor’s “Get In Girl” tour was scheduled to begin on June 12 in Clarkston, Michigan. The tour was then supposed to span North America, with stops in Toronto, Chicago, Philadelphia, Nashville, and Houston. One of her tour’s major stops was New York City’s legendary Madison Square Garden.
Before Trainor made her official announcement online, some noticed that her tour was being “quietly cancelled.” It was then theorised the cancellation was because of “low ticket sales.”
Some noted, from observing seating maps, that many tickets and seats had not been purchased at certain venues.
On Reddit, one commenter wrote: “I know we’re in a capitalistic hellscape, but I seriously need these teams to sit down and realize when their acts can’t book an arena. Scrolling through these venues and the choices are just… yeah.”
Another also added: “The tour name is odd, but I had no idea she was planning an arena tour which feels extremely ambitious.”
A third said: “She had Madison Square Garden as a stop. Totally unrealistic and I’m surprised that was even booked.”
Despite the cancelled tour, Trainor is preparing for the release of her seventh album, Toy With Me, on April 24.
