Lesbian icon and all-round ray of sunshine Miriam Margolyes has revealed her stunning earnings, just from Cameo.
For those not in the know, Cameo allows fans to buy personalised video messages from a range of celebrities. Prices vary depending on that celebrity’s star power (or ego size), with Margolyes charging from around £100/$130.
While she is currently marked as unavailable on the site, she has revealed she’s earned more than £500,000 since joining.
Speaking to comedian Romesh Ranganathan, who just got confirmed for Celebrity Traitors series two, on his podcast, The Romesh Ranganathan Show, she admitted she’s “grateful” for the platform.
“As of now, I’ve made I think £570,000 at the last count,” Margolyes said. “That’s the whole shebang, since I joined Cameo.”
She went on: “I try not to spend more than a couple hours on it a day, because life’s for living.”
It’s common for fans to request birthday messages for friends, but with Margolyes to-the-point, no holds barred humour, she gets requests for other messages.
She explained: “One of the things I noticed is that the cameos now are asking for advice and what they call pep-talks, rather than happy birthday or something like that.
“It’s difficult because they don’t give you enough information to know that you’re telling them useful stuff.”
She added: “But I’m very grateful to Cameo, I have to be honest, because it means that I can spend rather more freely than I would have done otherwise.”
