A man in Germany was allegedly murdered by his temporary roommate after moving in following a breakup, who took issue with him being gay.

The 44-year-old victim reportedly moved in with the 35-year-old defendant after breaking up with his ex. It’s reported that a property of his own was not ready, so the landlord made a room available in a shared home at which the defendant lived until it was.

According to German outlet Neue Osnarbrücker Zeitung, prosecutors say the two men clashed almost as soon as the victim moved in. The victim called the emergency services to report the defendant’s aggressive behaviour, but he called the fire department and ambulance service, not the police.

The next day, the prosecution allege the defendant had a folding knife and confronted the victim about being gay. He reportedly quoted Bible verses at him, including a passage from the Book of Moses which said men must not “lie with a male as with a woman”. It’s alleged he also tried to ban the victim from using the shared bathroom.

The incident led to a warning from the police, with the men agreeing to avoid each other as much as possible. It’s reported that the defendant was not searched at the time, despite there being mention of a knife.

Just over an hour later, it’s alleged the victim’s ex had arrived, who called the police again. The defendant allegedly threatened both men and told them they should face the wall when a “real man” walked past, because they were gay.

It’s alleged the defendant said he would “cleanse” the men and drink their blood. It’s reported that the police gave the defendant another warning.

On 9 November, the victim returned to the apartment. There, it’s alleged the defendant forced him to kneel and apologise at knifepoint, but it’s not clear what he was to apologise for.

The defendant reportedly filmed the incident on his phone, but later deleted it. It is not clear whether the video has been recovered.

The prosecution allege that the victim apologised to the defendant, who then stabbed him in the heart.

The defendant reportedly called the police and paramedics himself, claiming self-defence. He claimed the victim was the one who attacked him.

Emergency services discovered the victim, who was still alive but unresponsive. He sadly died not long after from his injuries.
