Henry Cavill and Jake Gyllenhaal‘s movie In The Grey is doing well on streaming, despite what has been described as a flop at the box office.

The film, directed by Guy Ritchie, sees Cavill and Gyllenhaal as mercenaries who are hired to recover a huge debt from a dictator.

Early reviews noted some homoerotic themes, with Cavill’s character Sig and Gyllenhaal’s Bronco pretending to be a married couple so they could get into a hotel. Similarly, Bronco refers to Sig as “my husband”, something which gets no reaction from those around them.

The Guardian‘s Benjamin Lee said the duo “are for all intents and purposes playing a gay couple”.

Despite the film having two major male leads – and subtle nods to gay themes, also including having sex in prison – it failed to ignite the box office, making just $3million around its opening weekend, and a reported total of $13million.

However, according to Collider, In The Grey is doing better after hitting streaming services in the US.

It is available to pay to rent or buy on streaming services including Prime Video, Apple TV and Fandango.

In The Grey has reached No6 in Prime Video’s charts, as per FlixPatrol, in the US, Mexico and Brazil. It has also reached No9 in Australia.

Similarly, it has broken into the top 10 on the Apple TV Store in Brazil (where it reached No3), Mexico, New Zealand and the US.

There is currently no word on when the film will be released on streaming in the UK.
