Boy George criticised for pro-Israel song: ‘You say genocide, I say war’

Boy George has come under fire for his new song, ‘We Will Dance Again’, which supports Israel and denies the “genocide” in Gaza, as declared by a recent United Nations independent commission.
Released on 26 July, the reggae song was reportedly made with the help of AI and begins: “You say genocide / I say war / When you’re attacked / That’s what the army is for / Does it get ugly? / You bet it does / When I know you want to kill / Every last one of us…”
On June 23, a United Nations independent commission declared that Israel is committing “genocide” and “atrocity crimes by deliberately targeting Palestinian children.”
“The evidence shows that Palestinian children have been deliberately targeted and killed by the Israeli security forces,” said Srinivasan Muralidhar, the chair of the commission.
“Even after the October 2025 ceasefire, children continue to be killed and seriously injured, with continued disregard by Israel for the ceasefire and for the protection owed to Palestinian children under international law.”
In the chorus of ‘We Will Dance Again’, Boy George sings: “If you’re ever confused / I stand with the Jews / I don’t need to be brave / I just need to behave / Like a human.”
The song follows comments the singer, who is Irish Catholic, recently made about supporting his Jewish friends.
Speaking to the Jewish Chronicle in June, George said: “Over the years it’s been a really personal thing. It doesn’t mean that I don’t have compassion for Palestinians, it doesn’t mean that I agree with what’s going on in Israel, but I am always going to defend the people that I love.”
He continued: “I have a lot of Jewish friends and there would never be a situation where I’d turn my back on them.”
The song received some praise from pro-Israel supporters online, but has also garnered much criticism from other social media users.
