Ariana Grande has told the Trump campaign to stop using her music after a Team Trump TikTok video used her 2024 single We Can’t Be Friends (Wait for Your Love) alongside anti-trans messaging.

The clip, posted on Thursday, shows Donald Trump walking to a podium as on-screen text reads: “Me and my truth we sit in silence… Men can’t have babies and should never compete in women’s sports.” The caption adds: “This shouldn’t be controversial! #trump #arianagrande #maga.”

Grande responded directly in the comments, writing: “Never use my music again. Also, your truth is false.” The singer’s fans in the comments suggested her response had been deleted, so they shared screenshots of it instead.

The video has since been muted, suggesting Grande’s team successfully blocked Team Trump from using it, after Daily Mail reported her label Republic was working to remove it.

Pop stars push back

The anger follows a separate incident in June, when the White House used a version of her 2024 song “Bye” in a TikTok post depicting ICE agents arresting and handcuffing people. Grande wrote in the comments: “Please do not ever use my music in relation to this barbaric, inhumane, heinous nonsense. F*** ICE.”

The multi-platinum pop singer and actor, who rose to fame on Victorious and Sam & Cat, and later played Glinda in the Wicked franchise, is not the first to hit back at Team Trump for using their music.

The likes of SZA, Sabrina Carpenter, Jess Glynne, Olivia Rodrigo, Celine Dion and ABBA have all made it clear they did not want their music linked to the US president or his campaigns.

Ariana Grande’s allyship

It should come as no surprise that Grande was upset that her music was used alongside anti-trans messaging.

The star is a vocal LGBTQ+ ally, who has regularly used her platform to defend the community, even saying she abandoned her Catholic upbringing because of their stance.
