The Traitors’ Freddie Fraser reveals boyfriend made first move as he talks coming out

The Traitors favourite Freddie Fraser has just spilled the tea on how he met his boyfriend, Bailey Ramsden, and his journey to coming out.

In August, Fraser melted the hearts of his fans when he hard-launched his and Ramsden’s relationship, having been known to have only dated women in the past.

The boys’ followers rushed to share excited, supportive messages, especially as it appeared Fraser was also using the moment to come out publicly.

And while he didn’t strictly label himself at the time, speaking to Joe Bagg on the Not My Bagg podcast, he revealed: “I kind of realised I was bisexual maybe six or seven months ago. It’s quite a new thing.”

He explained that now being out of school stopped him feeling that he would be judged, after bullies would tell him: “You’re gay, you’re gay, you’re gay.”

He explained: “Now, me having a boyfriend, to begin I was like, I almost don’t want to [post it] because I feel like I’m proving them right.”

But he eventually realised he was attracted to men, and Ramsden slid into his DMs.

“I liked a few of his pictures first,” Fraser explained, “then he thought he had the green light, so he made the first move.”

He said after talking for a while they started going on dates, and the rest is history and they’ve been officially boyfriend for three or four weeks.

‘They kept saying, ‘You’re queerbaiting.’ I was like, what does that even mean?’

“We went to 14 Stories in London, it’s a nice little restaurant,” Fraser said. “He took me there, and then he was like, ‘Wouldn’t it be so cliche if you just asked me out?’ A few wines later I was like, ‘Do you want to be my boyfriend?'”

After teasing the relationship for some time, they decided to hard launch with a sweet photo booth snap of them kissing.

“It got to a point where people were still not believing it,” he said. “They kept saying, ‘You’re queerbaiting.’ I was like, what does that even mean? I’m new to this.”

Obviously, he has proved he wasn’t queerbaiting, but dating a man is still something he’s learning has its perks.

“I really feel like I’ve got a best friend that’s also my boyfriend,” he explained. “Also, I feel I could be more myself with him because I feel like sometimes when I’m with girls, I have in my head I have to stop being as feminine or whatever because they’re gonna judge me and not want to be with me … With him, I can really be my true self.”

The Traitors fear

Freddie Fraser was on the third series of BBC smash hit The Traitors, starting out as a faithful before being recruited by the traitors, ultimately being banished at the next round table.

And while he’s made very close friendships with his co-stars, Fraser admitted he was scared viewers would judge him and speculate about his sexuality.

He said: “My biggest fear was, oh my God, everyone’s gonna say I’m gay – because I’ve dealt with that throughout my life – maybe because of the way I’m flamboyant or whatever.

“But I hate that narrative that because you’re flamboyant, you’re gay, or because you like musicals, you’re gay. Your personality doesn’t impact your sexuality.”

He went on: “That’s why I hate when people comment on me hard-launching like, ‘The closet is glass.’ I think that’s really negative, because there might be some straight boys out there who are into musicals, and now feel like they can’t be.

“Especially younger boys, they might feel like they can’t do what they like because they feel like they’re going to be judged in certain ways, here, there and everywhere. It’s just toxicity.”
