James Acaster already told Celebrity Traitors co-star secret identity in unaired moment

James Acaster on The Celebrity Traitors

James Acaster has said he effectively admitted to Jerry Hall that he was a Traitor on Celebrity Traitors, but the exchange was cut from the BBC broadcast.

The 41-year-old outed himself as a Traitor during a tense round table, during last Thursday’s penultimate episode. He was then, obviously, banished from the castle, with Faithfuls Sebastian Croft and Romesh Ranganathan ultimately winning.

Speaking on Alan Carr’s Life’s a Beach podcast, the comedian recalled an earlier moment in the series when Hall, 70, confronted him face-to-face about her suspicion that he was a Traitor.

“I looked her in the eye and said, ‘I think it might be me too, Jerry,’ and she said, ‘You’re very sneaky.’ And I told her I was very sneaky and it might be me,” Acaster said.

He told Carr he was stunned the exchange never aired. “I was like, well, surely that’s going in the edit,” he added, but said it “never made the final edit”.

‘I said a lot more around that roundtable than the edit would suggest’

Acaster also claimed viewers saw far less of his roundtable contributions than he actually made.

“I said a lot more around that roundtable than the edit would suggest,” he said, adding that producers often remove remarks to keep the Traitors’ voting intentions from becoming obvious to the audience.

Acaster had previously suggested key moments were left out of the show. In October, he said a key exchange was edited out that he believed explained why Julie Hesmondhalgh was banished.

Ahead of the penultimate episode, Acaster’s twist was teased as something “never seen before”. Filming was reportedly paused to make sure everyone involved was fine.

A BBC spokesperson said after the penultimate episode: “Our highest priority is always the safety and welfare of everyone taking part.”

Celebrity Traitors finale backlash

Faithfuls Romesh Ranganathan and Sebastian “Bash” Croft won the game, after banishing remaining Traitors Maya Jama and King Kenny, as well as Faithfuls Leigh-Anne Pinnock and James Blunt.

Ranganathan’s winnings will be donated to the Refugee Council and Croft chose Choose Love.

However, their charity choices have been criticised by right-wingers.
