Jameela Jamil has postponed a sold-out live recording of her podcast Wrong Turns in London, telling fans she has been “really sick” and is taking time away to recover. She said it is the first time she has cancelled work in her 18-year career.
Jamil, 40, shared the update in an Instagram post on Friday, September 5, ahead of the show scheduled for Friday, September 11.
‘First cancellation in 18 years’
In her message, Jamil apologised to ticket-holders and referenced recent images she has shared while unwell. “I’m so sorry to do this, but as you may have seen from various hospital pics over the past few weeks, I’ve been really sick with a fluke bad luck thing,” she wrote in the post, as quoted in coverage of her announcement.
“I have never cancelled an appearance or booked job in my entire 18 year career so you can imagine how mad this must be over here. It’s been a bit like living Final Destination,” she added.
Jamil also told fans she intends to reschedule. “I promise to arrange the show for when I am well enough,” she wrote.
What’s happening with the London show
The live recording was due to take place at Kings Place as part of the London Podcast Festival, and it had sold out.
“I am not going to be able to do the WRONG TURNS live show (which you sold out because you’re the f**king best) next Friday. I can’t think of a bigger wrong turn than this,” Jamil wrote.
She also said she is stepping back to focus on her health. “We will come back bigger and stronger soon hopefully. I love being with you in person. I just have to look after myself,”
In a further message to followers, she wrote: “I am VERY VERY sorry. Gonna go away for a bit and recover. Love you. Listen to your bodies,”.
What Jamil has said about being unwell
Jamil did not specify the precise illness in her cancellation messages. However, it has been speculated whether this could be linked to a recent anaphylactic (life-threatening allergic) attack she experienced.
In a post referenced in coverage of the cancellation, she wrote: “OK so the day after anaphylaxis and the treatment for it, I am so exhausted.” She added: “My heart is fluttering and I feel sick. I have fallen asleep about 8 times today,” as quoted in coverage of her social media updates.
In her cancellation message, Jamil also thanked nurses she named as James, Barold and Winnie for “keeping me above water”. She added that she will “still be sub-stacking and posting now and then from my bed”.
