Renée Good’s mother says she voted for Trump to fight ‘terrorists’, not ‘take precious lives’

Donna Ganger, the mother of Renée Good, told a Capitol Hill forum that she voted for Donald Trump believing federal agents would protect “innocents” from “terrorists”, after her daughter was fatally shot by an ICE agent.
Speaking at the forum on 22 September about deadly shootings by federal immigration agents, Ganger said: “I am a registered Republican. I voted for President Trump under the impression that these agents were here to protect the citizens of the United States, innocents like our family and the others here, against terrorists. Certainly not to accuse those of us here of being terrorists and take precious lives. This is madness.”

‘Thoughts and prayers are not enough’
Ganger also framed her call for oversight through her faith, telling lawmakers: “But far more than being a Republican, I am a Christian. Jesus teaches us to forgive and I have, but what we’re asking for and deserve is accountability and change.”
She added: “The prayers and the words of support have truly brought us comfort… But thoughts and prayers are not enough. We need action. We need accountability,” as quoted in an account of the forum reported by People.
Families press Congress over ICE shootings
The forum brought together families of people killed by ICE agents, including Good’s mother and brother, who called for lawmakers to take action, with Granger adding: “We will never, ever be the same. It is difficult to balance our gratitude for what a lovely soul Renée was, with the anger and confusion of the violent way she died and the total insanity of it all.”
Good was a US citizen and mother of three, and her family said she and her partner had just dropped their six-year-old child off at school before stopping to observe law enforcement activity. Federal officials alleged Good attempted to run over a law enforcement officer, but that account is disputed by local officials, witnesses and video footage.
In January, conflicting narratives emerged after Good was killed, sparking protests and condemnation.
At the same Capitol Hill forum, Good’s brother Brent Ganger told lawmakers: “Deaths of innocent Americans by taxpayer-funded government agents should not be a partisan issue and should alarm every American.”
