Influencer Briel Adams-Wheatley has publicly called out comedian Nikki Glaser over a stand-up joke, via Instagram stories.
The exchange began after a fan messaged Adams-Wheatley on Instagram to say they had attended Glaser’s show in Ridgefield, Washington, and felt she should know she was being referenced in the set. The fan wrote: “Were you aware you are a topic in Nikki Glaser’s current set? I was at her show last Saturday in Ridgefield WA. I didn’t like the jokes. Love your content. Thought you should be aware.”
After Adams-Wheatley asked what had been said, the fan described a joke they said included comments about her body and transitioning, sharing: “She said that [you] already hav[e] a hard life with no limbs but still decided to transition… then something about you had to, since you rubbed your p*nis off with the way you drag yourself across the room,” adding that they had booed during the performance.
Adams-Wheatley then posted this conversation to her Instagram story, tagging Glaser and asking: “Why are you making comments about what is or is not in my pants?”
Glaser responds: “It’s a dumb joke”
In messages later shared by Adams-Wheatley, Glaser apologised and said she should have reached out before including her in the routine.
“Hey girl. I’m so sorry this got back to you like this. I should have reached out to you. I never meant to hurt your feelings at all. This is not an accurate portrayal of the joke, but I’m sure it’s still not fun to hear you’re in my act,” Glaser wrote.
Glaser also addressed the trans-related framing, writing: “I HATE anti trans jokes of all kinds and to think I may have added to that rhetoric is disgusting to me.”
She added: “It’s a dumb joke and I will lose it immediately. I love you and I’m so sorry!”
Glaser then ended her message by saying she would remove the joke from her set moving forward.
