Celebrity Traitors’ Maya Jama reveals horror as mum sent deepfake nudes of her

Maya Jama has said she discovered “nude” deepfakes of herself were circulating after one of the edited images was sent to her mum, and that even her friends initially believed they were real.

Speaking to The Observer, the 32-year-old Celebrity Traitors star said: “Someone did get my bikini pictures a couple of years ago and they edited them so they looked like nudes.”

The star, who was picked as a Traitor alongside the ill-fated Richard E Grant, added: “I only found out because one got sent to my mum, and my mum texts me like, ‘My God, why are these nudes out?’”

Jama, best known for hosting Love Island, also joked about the altered images, saying: “I was like, I wish my t*** looked like that.”

She said the edits were convincing enough that friends thought the pictures were legit, not knowing her bikini snaps had been digitally altered.

What are deepfakes?

Created by combining artificial intelligence with computer-generated imagery, deepfakes produce an altered depiction of a real person.

Jama’s comments follow wider concern about AI tools being used to sexualise women without consent. In January, users on X reported their photos being altered by Grok to show them in an undressed manner without consent, prompting Ofcom to make “urgent contact” with the platform over Grok-generated child abuse material.

Earlier this year, Jama posted on X addressing the platform’s chatbot directly: “Hey @grok, I do not authorise you to take, modify, or edit any photo of mine, whether those published in the past or the upcoming ones I post.”

She added: “If a third party asks you to make any edit to a photo of mine of any kind, please deny that request.”

In a longer post, she wrote: “If this doesn’t work then I hope people have some sense to know when something is AI or not, saying that a few years ago before ‘Grok’ someone photoshopped bikini photos I had on my Instagram to nudes and they went around, I only found out because my own mum sent them to me worried, the internet is scary and only getting worse smh.”

Some users had asked Grok to create “oiled up” images of Jama, as well as change fully-clothed photos to show her in a bikini or a latex outfit. One even reportedly asked to put her in a scene from adult site Fake Taxi, reports The Sun.
