Miguel Bernardeau hints La Bola Negra full-frontal was real after prosthetic debate

Miguel Bernardeau’s rapid-fire answer about prosthetics on Spanish talk show Al cielo con ella has fuelled online debate over whether his full-frontal scene in La Bola Negra used a prosthetic.

In the clip, host Henar Álvarez asks Bernardeau: “Were any types of prosthetics used?” He initially replies: “No.” Almost instantly, he backtracks: “Wait, wait! No, sorry. Yes, they have been used. I wear many kinds of prosthetics.”

Bernardeau then appears to clarify what he meant, adding: “What do you think? That the wounds are real? Do you seriously think the wounds are real?” Álvarez responds: “Well played.”

The internet is divided over his response, with some viewers taking that first “no” as a tell that he did not use a prosthetic for the full-frontal shot.

What happens in La Bola Negra’s shower scene?

The question has lingered because the film does not shy away from nudity. Bernardeau appears fully naked in a scene in which Sebastián helps Rafael shower, and the camera briefly shows his penis.

Bernardeau has also spoken about what the role demanded of him. “It’s an intense movie. We had to invest ourselves emotionally a lot and that implies also nudity. You have to show everything! I was very excited to play this character. This is the character I’ve been wanting to play since I started. It gives you the space and possibility to get in those complicated scenes. I was very stimulated by them,” he told Out.

Bernardeau is best known internationally for Netflix teen drama Élite, where he played Guzmán Nunier, and has since built a profile beyond teen TV in Spanish projects. He is often positioned as part of a new generation of Spanish screen stars with crossover appeal.

When is La Bola Negra released on Netflix?

La Bola Negra, directed by Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi (Los Javis), is a queer historical film spanning interconnected stories of queer men across Spanish history. It begins streaming on Netflix on 2 December, following a theatrical rollout.

In an interview with Out, Ambrossi said: “We wanted to do a movie about desire! You need all of those in order to create the point of view of the character, especially Sebastián. We wanted to create a movie for everyone. I think I’m done with LGBTQ+ stories being niche. They are for everyone and we can prove that.”

The film’s rollout has also drawn attention after it hit theatres in the US and Canada on 16 October.
