Gay icon Paris Hilton given prison sentence
Heiress and gay icon, Paris Hilton has been sentenced to 45 days in prison after she ignored a driving ban.
A judge in Los Angeles ordered Hilton to spend almost two months behind becars he drove without a valid licence after hers was stopped for a previous offence.
She claimed she didn’t look at the ban document that she signed in January.
Superior Court Judge Michael Sauer rejected this defence and told the Simple Life star to report to a women only prison, appeals aside on June 5th 2007.
The star is already serving a three year probation after she pled guilty to an drink driving offence. Some have questioned why a woman of her wealth needs to drive at all.
Hilton’s lawyer Howard Weitzman said: “I am shocked and disappointed at the sentence imposed by the judge. I was equally taken aback by the city attorney’s position. To sentence Paris Hilton to 45 days in jail was to me uncalled for, inappropriate, and bordered on the ludicrous. I think she was singled out because she’s who she is.”
