New York newsreader killed in ‘gay slaying’
The death of a New York radio newsreader has been described by authorities as a “gay slaying”, according to reports.
George Weber, 47, who worked for ABC, was found stabbed to death in his Brooklyn apartment on Sunday.
Police sources said it is believed he was killed on Friday by a male acquaintance after witnesses reported seeing an unknown man pacing outside the building before being buzzed in.
The New York Post has claimed that pages from gay porn magazines were found scattered around Mr Weber’s home and police are trying to identify several men who appeared in photographs with him. The photographs were found in his apartment.
There was no sign of a break-in and although the apartment was ransacked, police are unsure if anything was taken.
Mr Weber had worked at WABC for more than 12 years, before being made redundant last year. Since then, he worked freelance for ABC Radio News.
In a statement, his family described him as “a truly caring person who loved and was loved by all he met.”
“His passion for radio journalism was evident from his early years,” the family said, “and only grew the longer he worked.”
