TV presenter Clare Balding honoured as Celebrity Charity Champion
BBC sports presenter Clare Balding, has been honoured as the winner of this year’s Celebrity Charity Champion Award.
Balding,Ā who is in a civil partnership with the broadcaster Alice Arnold, is one of Britainās best known lesbian television presenters.
The broadcaster and journalist supports several charities, and has done so even since presenting the Olympics and Paralympics last year.
SHe supports the Helen Rollason Cancer Charity, the Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity, and Stonewall.
During Comic Relief, Ms Balding became the voice of the speaking clock, in order to raise money for the cause.
In April, she launched the Tea for Helen campaign to raise money for the Helen Rollason Cancer Charity, which was founded in 1999 in memory ofĀ Balding’s fellow sports presenter and close friend Helen Rollason.
Later that month, she also encouragedĀ gayĀ sports stars to come out when she spoke at Stonewall’s annual equality dinner at the Dorchester Hotel in London.
A spokesman for Stonewall describes her as a “fantastic role model for millions of lesbian,Ā gayĀ and bisexual people across the UK”.
Last month, the broadcaster and journalist Clare Balding was awarded an OBE in the Queenās Birthday Honours list, just a few weeksĀ after she collected a special BAFTA award to recognise her on-screen contributions to the Olympic and Paralympic games.
