A woman has posted a classifieds ad on a French website offering to breastfeed babies of gay couples for 100 euros (£86) a day.

The advert has attracted media attention, and has been verified as genuine by the website e-loue. It offers up to ten breast feeds a day, and the woman is based near Paris.

It reads: “I am a young mother in perfect health, a trained nurse of 29, and I am renting my breasts to milk-feed infants.”

Alexandre Woog, the chief executive of e-loue, said he personally contacted the woman who made the post to verify the service she was offering. He also dispelled questions of the legality of the offer.

“Our legal advisers are sure of this. It’s illegal in France to sell maternal milk but this is a person proposing a service, not selling the milk in flasks,” Woog said, speaking to Reuters.

Despite France passing a law to legalise equal marriage back in June, surrogacy, or assisted reproduction for gay and lesbian couples was not included in the bill.

Speaking to Reuters, the poster, who used a pseudonym, as is customary on e-loue, said: “I’ve received more than a dozen requests, but only half of them were serious. The rest were from perverts.”

Woog said the website was founded in 2009 as a platform for offering or hiring anything legal, but that it is standard practice for posts which raise questions to be checked individually and verified.

A previous post also attracted attention, as an anonymous poster offered the services of two goats as lawn cutters.
