US: Michigan Police investigate Detroit attacks against LGBT people
Michigan police are investigating three attacks against LGBT people in Detroit’s Palmer Park.
The potentially-related shootings have left one victim killed and two others injured in recent weeks.
According to Equality Michigan, the two victims injured identify as transgender. The victim killed may have identified as a gay man, according to some reports.
On 15 August, a man and a trans woman were shot in the park. The man died, while the trans woman survived the attack.
The suspect fled via car, but was involved in a rollover accident during the escape, fleeing on foot.
Another trans woman was shot three days later on 18 August in the same park, but also survived.
The man killed in the attacks may have been the suspect’s partner, according to Equality Michigan.
Police are not releasing the names of the victims.
Police say they have a person of interest in the cases, but no arrests have been made.
Equality Michigan released a statement on the violence, saying: “We encourage members of the LGBT community to be extra cautious around Palmer Park until those responsible are caught.”
