Listen: These are the UK’s potential Eurovision entries

The BBC is unveiling the six songs that could be sent to the Eurovision Song Contest.

After a string of embarrassing defeats at the camp European music contest, the broadcaster is holding its first public selection contest in six years, in a bid to secure a UK victory.

ā€˜Bake Offā€™ presenter Mel Giedroyc is set to host the national final on Friday ā€“ which will be broadcast live on BBC Four, with the public voting between a shortlist of six songs.

The prospective hopefuls and songs were unveiled this morning on Radio 2 ā€“ and include a girlband singer getting hope from Leona Lewis, a folk duo and former reality stars.

First up is former ā€˜The Voiceā€™ contestants Joe and Jake, who are teaming up to perform the power-ballad Youā€™re Not Alone and hope to go all the way to Stockholm.

Second is Bianca, who scored number 10 hit ā€˜Louderā€™ as part of girlband Parade, will be bidding for her place with the entry ā€˜Shine a Little Lightā€™ ā€“ not to be confused with the UKā€™s last winner, ā€˜Love Shine a Lightā€™. The entry is co-written by Leona Lewis.

Third is folk duo Dulcima, who are hoping to represent the UK with entry ā€˜When You Goā€™, an unsurprisingly upbeat folky number.

Matthew James is the fourth hopeful in the running ā€“ having previously found fame as the lead singer of boyband Bad Boys Inc.

His entry A Better Man is co-written by Swedish singer Peter Kvint, which surely canā€™t hurt given Swedenā€™s recent winning streak.

Fifth is singer-songwriting duo Darline, comprised of Abby Inez and CƔra Beard.

The pairā€™s entry Until Tomorrow is a perfect Euro-kitsch ballad, and will remind you of every middle-table Eurovision entry ever. You definitely know your audience, girls.

Last (in the countdown at least) is Liverpudlian hair model Karl William Lund, with self-penned track ā€˜Miracleā€™. The singer wonā€™t be having any comedy or gimmicks in his performance, explaining: ā€œItā€™s time the UK got serious once again about Eurovisionā€.

Good luckā€¦ and donā€™t f**k it up!
