Police hunt suspects following horrific attack on trans woman
Following the attack of a transgender woman in Brooklyn, NYC, police are looking for three male suspects.
The victim was walking in the Park Slope neighbourhood on May 13 when she was approached by a group of five men, NBC 4 New York reports.
“I was just trying to get away at that point, I just didn’t want any altercation,” she said, adding, “Next thing you know, I got my hair pulled and was just getting hit in multiple directions, multiple fists at the same time.”
Her attackers fled the scene and she walked herself to the New York Methodist Hospital and was treated for a fractured nose and eye socket, CBS New York reports
Residents of the Park Slope community expressed their shock when interviewed, saying the neighbourhood is ‘close-knit’ and ‘gay-friendly’.
NYPD has identified three suspects, releasing their surveillance photos on Sunday, May 22.
One suspect wore a grey Nike top with red sleeves, while another wore a dark jacket with a royal blue Adidas t-shirt. The third suspect was bald and wore a denim jacket and glasses.
All men are believed to be in their late teens or early 20s.
Earlier this year, a trans woman shared a photo of the person who assaulted her on the NYC subway.
Jennifer Louise Lopez’s attacker demanded to know her gender and used anti-trans slurs before physically attacking her.
Despite an intervention by fellow passengers who pulled the assailant away from Lopez, she still required emergency eye surgery.
