PinkNews asked the people of Pride in London what the day meant to them.

Thousands of people gathered in the centre of London on Saturday to celebrate Pride – but in the wake of the Orlando shooting, what does this celebration mean to the LGBT community?

“I think pride is a continual reminder of how much we have to work for. Last year we had just won gay marriage in America, and this year we are still mourning the Orlando shooting.

“It just reminds us every year that there is so much farther to come, and there are so many other people. Once we’ve got our rights we have to strive to fight for other people as well.”

“Pride is anything and everything. From where you work, from where you come from, from who you are. Pride is something that is near and dear to you.

“It’s amazing that we get to come together for this and celebrate everyone’s diversity.”

“Being proud, coming together as a community and supporting each other. And standing up for what you believe in. It doesn’t matter what color you are, race, sexuality or anything.

“Some people want to live their life in hate and negativity, but we should get on with life and enjoy it. Just live one day at a time and be rejoiceful for what we have.”

“While it’s important to have these festivities and recognize it as a joyous time it’s almost more important to recognize what it took to get here.

“Don’t necessarily treat it as just a party but really do treat it as a celebration of how far we’ve come as a community. ”

“It’s giving freedom.”

“Pride is just being really happy with who you are and not being afraid to be anyone you want to be.”

“Diversity and loving everyone. It’s unity. Love one, love all.”
