Spider-Man singer Steve Lacy addresses spoiling major Sadie Sink twist: ‘I did nothing wrong’

Steve Lacy and Sadie Sink

Bisexual musician Steve Lacy has broken his silence after accidentally spoiling a major plot twist involving Sadie Sink’s character in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

Lacy, whose song ‘Oh Yeah?’ featured in the box office smash, dropped a huge spoiler during an interview on the red carpet of the Dolby Theatre, LA, premiere of the film on 27 July.

We’re getting into the spoiler below in more detail, so proceed with caution.

Warning: spoilers below!

During the interview, which was being live-streamed, Lacy was asked what he liked about the new film. “I like Jean,” he said, referring to the character played by Stranger Things star Sadie Sink.

“She’s the villain, but there’s a reason to her madness.”

The interviewer then asked him if he had just inadvertently dropped a major spoiler, to which he replied: “I like her.”

Despite not going into the details, many fans were in equal parts excited and devastated to realise that the singer had revealed that Sink was playing X-Men favourite Jean Grey in the film, a secret that had so far been kept deeply under wraps.

In a new interview on ‘NFR Podcast’, Lacy explained away the controversy, saying that he didn’t know he was spoiling anything.

“Jean Grey, huh? I didn’t know, no one told me it was a secret. I did nothing wrong,” he laughed.

‘Kevin Feige probably had a heart attack’

Marvel fans were quick to make light of the situation in the replies on X.

“Steve Lacy laughing like the Marvel snipers aren’t actively tracking his location right now is wild,” one joked. “[President of Marvel Studios] Kevin Feige probably had a literal heart attack when that tracklist dropped. The fact that he just casually dropped Jean Grey’s name on a song title because no one told him it was a secret.”

“The ‘I did nothing wrong’ followed by the laugh is exactly what someone says after accidentally causing chaos,” quipped another.

A third wrote: “Marvel’s security team just added Steve Lacy to the ‘never tell him anything again’ list,” accompanied by the crying laughing emoji.
