An out gay Conservative leader has claimed Republicans are “excited” to introduce LGBT friendly laws.

Tyler Deaton, a senior adviser to the American Unity Fund, has said LGBT people shouldn’t fear the Trump administration.

He told BuzzFeed: “It wasn’t too long ago that we were talking about what it means to be a gay American, and now we are having that experience on what it means to be a transgender American.”

BuzzFeed reports him as claiming, “Republican lawmakers want — in fact, they’re ‘excited’ — to support LGBT rights.”

The American Unity Fund is a Republican group campaigning for LGBT rights.

Deaton added: “Maybe I will be be proven wrong,” Barron said about his hopes for Trump’s LGBT legacy.

“But I will trust him for now rather than terrifying people into believing that Trump is going to do something that he hasn’t done.”

Just one in seven LGBT Americans voted for Trump, according to data.

Trump previously said he would “consider” appointing ultra-conservative Supreme Court justices to repeal equal marriage, come out in favour of North Carolina’s anti-trans law, and confirmed he would sign a Republican-backed bill to directly permit religious homophobic discrimination.

Donald Trump becomes president at 12PM DC time, as Barack Obama leaves office.

Obama is off to holiday with gay friends in Palm Spring on leaving the White House.
