Log Cabin Republicans claim ‘the gays love Melania Trump’ in surreal, cringe-worthy video

First Lady Melania Trump Visits Children's Inn At The National Institutes For Health On Valentine's Day

Log Cabin Republicans are tripping over themselves to honour Melania Trump in a bizarre tribute video that claims the gays all “love” her.

The gay Republican group presented the former First Lady with their annual “Spirit of Lincoln” award at Trump’s Mar-A-Lago Club on Saturday (6 November).

As the guest of honour at the gala, Melania was celebrated for making history as “the first Republican first lady to ever support our community”, admittedly a low bar to clear.

Leading the tribute was Trump’s former ambassador to Germany, Richard Grenell, who gushed: “From the moment I met first lady Melania Trump at the beginning of the Trump administration, I knew our community had an advocate.

“I’m not so sure where she got her passion for equality, but it was there, and it was real,” he claimed. “Maybe it’s because she’s the most international first lady we’ve ever had? She speaks so many languages, understands so many cultures, appreciates diversity.”

Other Log Cabin Republicans also chimed in to sing Melania’s praises while carefully skirting around anything she’s actually done for LGBT+ Americans.

“Let’s be honest, the gays love first lady Melania Trump. Now don’t get me wrong, we love Trump too, but man, she made him look good!” came one impossible claim.

“She’s smart, she’s fashionable, she’s stylish,” added one. “She’s great friend to the LGBT community and an inspiration to millions of people,” said another.

“We know her gay friends are dear, and she’d never let us down.”

Beyond her “vocal support of Log Cabin Republicans” in a video for their 2020 Outspoken campaign, it’s hard to pinpoint exactly where Melania Trump’s alleged LGBT-friendly reputation comes from.

While she may have positioned herself as softer on such issues than the president, and once attempted to light up the White House in rainbow colours during Pride month, she never actually spoke out against her husband’s overtly anti-LGBT+ policies.

In fact, she actually tried to present him in a better light, glossing over his appalling record and claiming she was “shocked” to hear people trying to paint him as anti-gay.

Clearly she was unaware of how Trump pushed to legalise anti-LGBT+ discrimination, denied trans people equal access to emergency shelters, appointed Supreme Court judges who threatened marriage equality, banned trans people from serving in the military, allowed federal adoption agencies to reject gay couples, fought to deny US citizenship to the children of same-sex parents, reversed trans healthcare protections and backed bans on trans girls in school sports.

Let’s hear it for his first lady though!
