Kelly Clarkson has torn apart a fan who tweeted at her with anti-gay views.

The “Love So Soft” singer has long been an LGBT+ ally, speaking out last year to reveal that she grew up in Texas watching children “get their asses kicked” for being gay.

And she has once again used her platform to champion equality, telling off a supporter of hers who had an issue with the star’s support for LGBT+ causes in an endearingly generous way.

The Clarkson supporter, Terri D Fallis, told the singer: “Sorry Kelly…. love your music but I don’t dig the dikes [sic]…still a sin any way you cut it.”

The 36-year-old, who has won three Grammy Awards, quote-tweeted the post, saying: “I almost didn’t respond 2 this because hate doesn’t deserve a spotlight but u know what, truth does.”

She added: “The truth is that God is Love, & Love shared between two people should be praised not condemned in my personal opinion.

“I love u 2 although we see the world/love differently.”

The generous and love-filled response, which attracted more than 21,000 retweets and likes, was praised by fans.

One wrote: “GIRLLLL!!! I saw that comment and was going to say something, but it wouldn’t have been as nice as you just put it.

“Thank you for standing up for “us” and more importantly, for what you believe in.”

Another fan said: “My sister is married to an amazing woman.. they are so happy together and full of life ❤ i love my sister ..today..tomorrow..and always.

They continued: “the Only sin I witness is the hate that other people have.. Love is Love …pure and simple… ❤.”

“That’s one of the reasons why I love you,” wrote one person.

“You’re talented, you’re kind and you know beliefs and religion shouldn’t interfere on human rights and love.

Another said: “It’s really too bad that we can’t just let people who love each other simply love each other.

In 2016, Clarkson said she found rumours surrounding her sexuality “insulting to the gay community.”

“I’m from a small town in the South,” she said. “Everyone thought I was gay ’cause I wasn’t married with kids already!

“And I was like, ‘That’s kind of insulting to the gay community!’ But, especially in this day and age, I had a very high bar.”

The year before that, the singer and mother-of-two said she would not care if her kids were queer.

“I mean, here’s what I hope for her: I just hope she finds love,” she said.

“It took me a while, man. And there was a lot of heartache throughout those years. You know, as long as she’s happy, I don’t care either way, and neither does my husband.

“And we have two other kids as well, and we don’t care either way for all of them,” added Clarkson.

“I’d be like, “Awesome! When do we meet him or her?

“Honestly, it’s so funny, it doesn’t even register in my world as different. I don’t know why. But yeah, it doesn’t. I’m glad it doesn’t!”
