Adam Devine wants gay characters whose sexuality isn’t ‘the main issue’
Pitch Perfect star Adam Devine wants to see films with gay characters who don’t view their sexuality as “the main issue in their lives.”
“I totally get that, of course, but I want to see a movie about two gay guys where being gay is not the main issue in their lives.”
“I certainly would never pass on a role because it was gay.”

“I want to see them on a completely different journey that has nothing to do with them being gay,” he added.
Adam Devine is comfortable with playing a gay character
Devine, who stars opposite Rebel Wilson in new rom-com parody Isn’t It Romantic, also said he would have no problem taking on a gay role.
“I’m down to play anything,” he said, “as long as the script is great and I think I could bring something to the character.”
“I certainly would never pass on a role because it was gay,” he added.
The actor, who has a large gay following, said it was “very flattering to have that support.”
Adam Devine stars opposite gay actor in Isn’t It Romantic
Wilson revealed last month that she insisted on casting an openly gay actor to play gay character Donny in Isn’t It Romantic.
Her character in the film, Natalie, hits her head and wakes up in the alternate reality of a cheesy rom-com.
In the trailer, she describes how her neighbour Donny has become her “gay sidekick, who’s setting gay rights back, like, a hundred years.”
Wilson, who has a producing credit on the film as well as acting as its main character, said she set out to cast a gay man in the role, which went to The Good Place actor Brandon Scott Jones.
“Being the producer of the film, it was really important to me that obviously we cast an openly gay actor for the role of Donny so that the character could not in any way be construed as mocking a gay guy,” she told the Los Angeles Times.
“I think we make a really clever comment about how gay characters have been marginalised in the past few decades,” she added.
The star also credited award-winning producer Ryan Murphy for creating complex LGBT+ characters that have not previously been seen on the big screen.
