A member of South Korean pop group Loona called Yves has delighted fans with a show of support for LGBT+ people.

When the band was asked by MTV why Loona had so many queer fans, Yves said: “I think I should answer this.

“I heard the LGBTQ+ community was really interested in the continued worlds of ‘New’ [her solo single] and (fellow Loona member) Chuu’s solo, ‘Heart Attack,'” she said, referring to music videos which show the singers in same-sex relationships.

The performer, whose real name is Ha Soo Young, explained: “When the song was being written and the video filmed, we didn’t see it like that.

“For us, it was a story about yearning, but we were also thankful when it was translated that way.”

She added that “we want to go beyond gender, race, and nationality.”

Loona fans loved the comments by Yves

Queer followers of the group were thrilled to read the remarks from Yves, who was involved in a viral joke tweet earlier this year which used a years-old meme to pretend that she and Chuu had married and become “the richest couple alive.”

One of these fans, who are known as Orbits, tweeted: “yves saying that truly means so much to me oh my god I don’t even know what to say, the woman of my life basically said GAY RIGHTS.”

In a similar vein, a different commenter wrote: “YVES DROPPED BY TO SAY GAY RIGHTS!!” while another person said: “I LITERALLY CANNOT BELIEVE MY EYES YVES SAID GAY RIGHTS.”

“Yves comes along n says that they love that LGBT people see themselves represented in Loona mvs. So basically, f**k you homophobes.”

“YVES REALLY SAID ‘I GOT YOU LGBTQ+ COMMUNITY I GOT YOU'” wrote a different user.

Many were shocked that such a prominent performer had revealed their support for LGBT+ people in South Korea, where protections against anti-LGBT discrimination are limited and same-sex couples are unable to marry or adopt.

One of these people said: “YVES SAID EVEN THO IT WASNT MEANT TO BE GAY THAT SHES THANKFUL IT WAS INTERPRETED THAT WAUKGKSKGKSKKFS IM SO SAD WHAT THE F**K. YVES I LOVE YOU.

“I’ve never heard anyone say they were thankful that something was interpreted as lgbt+ like… that word choice and just the way she didn’t shy away from it means so much.”

Another tweeted: “Yves comes along n says that they love that LGBT people see themselves represented in Loona mvs. So basically, f**k you homophobes.”

A different user wrote: “when the interviewer asked about the large amount of orbits who are part of the lgbtq+ community yves went ‘i think i should answer this’ and then said that… they wanted to go beyond gender, race and nationality… in conclusion we have decided to stan even harder ‍♀️.”

Others exaggerated what the singer had said to convey their positive feelings about her supportive statement.

One fan tweeted: “i can’t believe yves went from calling us ‘her friends’ to ‘thoughts on the lgbt community? i respect it and I’m the leader.'”

Another said: “yves: this is for my f**king fans, for god and for the gays.”

And a different tweeter commented: “interviewer: so you have a lot of lgbt—yves: I THINK I SHOULD ANSWER THIS.”
