Republican congressman takes aim at non-binary people in new campaign ad
The Republican candidate to be governor of Louisiana, Ralph Abraham, has released a new TV campaign video that hits out at abortion rights and the transgender community.
In the 30-second clip, which was launched today (August 22) in order to draw attention to Abraham’s campaign, the congressman looks directly into the camera and says he will establish “the truth”.
Abrahams then says that “life begins at conception”, “government is too big”, “our taxes are too high” and “our car insurance is too expensive”. He also adds that he supports US president Donald Trump – “President Trump is doing a great job“, the Republican candidate says.
At the end of the video, he takes aim at non-binary trans people, saying: “And as a doctor, I can assure you there are only two genders.”
According to his campaign website, Abrahams is running for Louisiana governor “because he knows that hardworking Louisianians deserve better”.
“Since 2014 he’s been a leading conservative Christian voice as our Louisiana congressman,” the website says.
Wishing all my Catholic friends in Christ celebrating The Assumption of Mary today a wonderful, Holy Day.

The current governor of Louisiana is Democrat John Bel Edwards.
In 2006, Edwards issued an executive order mandating state business to accommodate trans employees. This was later struck down by the Louisiana Supreme Court.
Edwards was first elected in 2015.
Abraham is the frontrunner of the Republican field of candidates, who will all appear on the October ballot.
