Mass Effect remastered: Legendary Edition will run at 120FPS on Xbox Series X, 60FPS on PS5

EA has confirmed that the remastered Mass Effect Legendary Edition will run at 120fps on Xbox Series X.

On PlayStation 5, though, it tops at 60fps.

The remaster of the sci-fi trilogy is primarily releasing on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 (as well as PC), but will be playable on the newer consoles too with improved performance.

Across the platforms, players can experience the game in either “Favor Quality” mode or “Favor Framerate” mode that prioritise either resolution or frame rate.

EA have published a blog post that details each mode across every platform.

Of course, PC players will have the best experience – depending on their setup. PC players can target 240FPS and refresh rates of 240Hz for the sharpest and smoothest graphics.

On console, though, Xbox Series X has the highest frame rate at 120FPS, while PlayStation 5 owners will have 60FPS in both modes.

Considering both graphical modes on PlayStation 5 are at 60FPS, it’s unclear why anyone would choose the “Favor Framerate” mode over “Favor Quality” as there’s no real difference.

Ahead of the release of Mass Effect Legendary Edition next week (14 May), some bonus content has been released on the game’s website.

Players can customise their own personalised key art to share online. Choose your Shepard, squadmates, morality and location, then download to share. You can even print at slip case size to personalise your physical copy.

To get you in the space opera mood, a video playlist of the soundtrack with beautiful animations is now up on YouTube. It includes the song “Resynthesis” that’s brand new to this trilogy.

Lastly, fans can download bonus content previously available in the Deluxe Editions of Mass Effect 2 and 3, including the soundtrack, art books, comics and a Normandy Digital Lithograph.
