The best waxing kits after the government confirmed ‘friendly, intimate contact’ can return this month

Home waxing kit

After the government announced that “friendly, intimate contact” could take place from 17 May there’s been a spike in searches for home waxing kits – no, really.

The UK government confirmed the news as part of stage three of the roadmap out of lockdown, with Michael Gove saying: “it is also the case that friendly contact – intimate contact – between friends and family is something we want to see restored.”

Although Gove later clarified that “contact” means hugging, it didn’t stop queer people from reading between the lines of the latest advice.

Since then there’s been a spike in search and sales of waxing kits as everybody gets ready for some “friendly, intimate contact” later this month.

So, with that in mind, we thought we’d start thinking about intimate grooming as well, and that in turn led to this handy shopping guide. You can find some popular waxing kits below and in the wise words of Nicki Minaj, “wax on? wax off”.

If you want to go all the way and pretend you’re in the salon then you can get this waxing kit which comes with a melting pot for the beans. The pot has four gears to adjust the melting temperature so you can get it just right for you and can be used on your face, legs, armpits and more. It’s still a pretty decent price at £24.99 and comes with 100g of wax beans in four different varieties with 30 applicator sticks. To get this kit head to Amazon here.

This bag of wax beans is a hugely popular choice for its affordability as it costs £9.99. The wax can be used on the face including eyebrows, armpits, legs and bikini area. They’re said to be easy to use at home and are a better alternative to hair removal cream and razor shaving as there’s a longer-lasting effect. Once melted, the wax can be applied with the spatula provided and simply pulled off as there’s no need to use strips. This kit is available from Amazon here.

This roller kit is a little different as it features a heated cartridge holder rather than wax beads. The roller retains wax temperature for continuous use while the kit also comes with roller refills, soothing after wax lotion and paper waxing strips. It can be used to remove hair from legs, bikini, arms, face and under arms and is a great alternative to wax beads. The kit is priced at £32.18 from Amazon here.

One waxing trend that’s become popular recently is nose hair removal, partly thanks to Instagram and TikTok tutorials showing people getting their nose hair waxed.

This kit is a hugely popular choice on Amazon with more than 2,000 positive reviews and it’s priced at £9.99. The kit comes with wax, applicators, measure cup, paper cup and a user guide. You just heat up the wax using boiling water or a microwave and then put the wax in your nostrils for a few minutes before pulling them out, which is described as “safe and quick” – but not painless. Ow.

You can also get this oil for before and after waxing to treat any areas that may be sensitive. The coconut and lime oil forms a barrier on the skin, so the wax only adheres to the hair which results in a clean waxed area. It aims to soothe the skin throughout the treatment, with reviewers also noting the nice scent.

It’s priced at £9.99 and available from Amazon here.
