6 times the iconic JoJo Siwa floored us with her effortless style

JoJo Siwa truly knows how to make a fashion statement with her signature high ponytail and all manner of colourful, glittery accessories.

Over the years, the social media sensation’s style has evolved to include everything from her iconic oversized bows to anything neon-coloured and covered in sequins or glitter.

The 18-year-old Dancing with the Stars alum recently turned heads when she attended KIIS FM’s annual Jingle Ball rocking black leather shorts and a midriff-baring, sparkling black cardigan. Siwa also paid tribute to her signature bows with not only a shiny bow on her cardigan as well as smaller bows on her heels.

While on the red carpet, Siwa told E! News the look is a “little more adult T-to-the-bow bow” which was approved by her mum.

“My mom went shopping,” Siwa revealed. “She pulled a few things out of a bag and, immediately, I knew, this is the one for tonight. It’s the one.”

That’s not the only jaw-dropping outfit that Siwa has worn. She has worn more killer looks than fans can shake a giant sequinned bow at.

Here are just six of Siwa’s best style moments that have truly cemented her as a queer style icon.

1. JoJo Siwa looked glamorous in a stunning black dress and her first-ever heels

The social media sensation showed up at the American Music Awards in a floor-length black gown with sheer panels and a borrowed pair of gold heels from her Dancing with the Stars professional partner Jenna Johnson.

The Nickelodeon star told People it was the “first time in my life” that she was in a dress in heels. She added that her style transition was due in part to her time on Dancing with the Stars where she went from “dressing like I normally dress to looking more adult”.

“And I want to branch out of my comfort zone, and so today we went for a dress,” Siwa said. “I got some heels on.”

2. The time she rocked a rainbow-coloured, sequin-covered velour jumpsuit on stage

In September, Siwa attended the screaming of her latest movie The J Team in a pink velour jumpsuit covered in giant bedazzled rainbows and stars.

She paired the camp and colourful look with a pair of yellow and pink sneakers – which were, of course, also covered in sparkles – as well as a giant sparkly rainbow bow.

The cosy yet eye-catching look was perfect for the drive-in movie screening and performance event for fans.

3. JoJo Siwa’s camp, feathery outfit for the Angry Birds 2 movie premiere

Siwa channelled her inner Angry Bird when she arrived at the premiere of The Angry Birds Movie 2 in a blue full-body costume complete with sequins, glitter and loads of feathers.

In true Siwa-fashion, the YouTuber topped off the look with a coordinating blue bow with a tiny Angry Bird on it and glittery blue and yellow face makeup. The finishing touch for the already wild look was a pair of psychedelic-coloured, high-top glitter sneakers with big pink bows.

Honestly, it’s the most JoJo Siwa outfit that she’s probably ever worn.

4. Her stunning semi-sheer dress with cutouts on Dancing with the Stars

Honestly, Siwa and Johnson had loads of gorgeous looks during their 10-week stint on Dancing with the Stars.

But Siwa really turned heads on Janet Jackson night when she wore a semi-sheer black dance garment with cutouts and strategically placed embroidered flowers.

The outfit was almost as spicy as the dance Siwa performed when she wore the stunning look.

5. That time Siwa terrified fans with her ghoulishly perfect Pennywise costume

Siwa proved she can not only pull off glitter but also gore when she delivered a frighteningly fierce routine as Pennywise from It.

The gruesome look was perfectly paired with Siwa and Johnson’s spooky routine full of acrobatic stunts and killer moves. Siwa donned Pennywise’s iconic white clown makeup, red hair and tattered costume to strike fear into the hearts of fans and judges alike.

The YouTuber – who has proved herself to be a consummate performer – finished the perfect dance by ripping off Johnson’s prop arm as her partner fell to the floor screaming.

6. When JoJo Siwa came out via a not-so-subtle shirt

Siwa’s most iconic look is arguably her most laid-back outfit because it’s just a shirt, but it’s the one that got the world talking.

In January, Siwa came out as part of the LGBT+ community by sharing a photo of her new t-shirt emblazoned with the words: “Best. Gay. Cousin. Ever.”

The YouTuber shared the image on Twitter with the caption: “My cousin got me a new t-shirt”. Soon after posting the photo, Siwa trended on Twitter as fans and celebrities worldwide shared their support for the teen.

In the months that followed, Siwa has shared her love for the LGBT+ community and cemented herself as a “gay icon” – and it all started with just a shirt.
