Netflix says Elliot Page’s Umbrella Academy character will come out as trans and fans are thrilled
The Umbrella Academy season three will reintroduce Elliot Page’s character as Viktor Hargreeves.
Page, who shared that he is transgender in December 2020, has starred in both season of the hit Netflix show.
After the actor came out it was reported that there wouldn’t be any change to his character, who has so far been portrayed as a woman. But Elliot Page shared an an exciting update with fans on Tuesday (29 March).
The Juno star revealed their character will be known as Viktor Hargreeves, with Netflix confirming to The AV Club that Viktor will come out as trans in the upcoming season.

“Meet Viktor Hargreeves,” Elliot Page tweeted on Tuesday, alongside an image from the upcoming season.
In the photo, Viktor rocks a short haircut, wearing a leather jacket and hoodie while sitting at a bar.
The Netflix Twitter account retweeted the post and wrote: “Welcome to the family, Viktor — we’re so happy you’re here.”
The Umbrella Academy’s account tweeted: “WE LOVE YOU VIKTOR”, while Justin H Min, who played Ben, added: “Ben would be proud.”
Emmy Raver-Lampman, who plays Allison, also wrote: “I love you ❤️”, while Luther actor Tom Hopper said: “Still jealous of your leather jacket this season!?”.
Fans joined in, sharing their excitement to meet Viktor in The Umbrella Academy season three.

The Umbrella Academy quickly won a huge following when it debuted on Netflix in 2019.
The series follows a dysfunctional family of adopted siblings and superheroes who reunite in an effort to find out what happened to their father following his death.
The second season hit the streaming platform in July 2020, and it was renewed for a third season just four months later due to huge demand from fans.
Page came out as trans in December 2020, and Netflix immediately updated his name on all of his past projects, including Inception and Tales of the City.
The streaming giant heaped praise on Page after he came out, tweeting at the time: “So proud of our superhero! WE LOVE YOU ELLIOT!”
The Umbrella Academy season three drops on Netflix on 22 June.
