Love Island winner Amber Gill has addressed her accidental “coming out” tweets that went viral in early July.

Gill, who won the reality show in 2019, hinted that she’d “switched teams” while joining in with discourse around the gross behaviour of men in the latest Love Island season.

“Switching teams was the best decision I made in my life,”  Gill tweeted.

She then added: “Watching men makes me feel ill I couldn’t put myself through it again.”

Gill confirmed her coming out while appearing on the showbiz gossip show Access All Areas on FUBAR Radio.

When asked about if the tweets were an accident she said: “Accidentally, yeah. I remember looking at it [the tweet] and thinking, ’S**t, what have I said?’”

She added: “A lot of my friends were like: ‘If you were gonna do it any way, that’s the typical way that you would do that.’

“Normally people have these lovely, beautiful stories and lovely, beautiful real Instagram posts, like just lush.

“I’ve put ‘switching teams’ on a tweet and that’s how I came out!”

The 24-year-old reality TV star confirmed she doesn’t currently have a “lady in her life”, but said she was “open to it” if the right person came along.

She added that she doesn’t have a particular type when it comes to women.
Amber Gill had previously said that she would address her sexuality when she was ready, and would not be pressured.

Addressing the intense online reaction to her tweets, she told Johnny Seifert’s Secure The Insecure podcast: “I’ll say what I want to say when I’m ready. There’s no need to speculate, we can all see what I’m saying.

“All this speculation makes it harder for people to want to say how they really feel and talk about their sexuality.”

Gill won Love Island with Greg O’Shea, but they split up shortly after the series finished.

Since then, she’s admitted she has found it “really difficult” to date.

“I’m just very picky now, and very attuned to what I like and what I don’t like – so I don’t know if it’s that’s part of the reason,” she confessed.

Gill is embracing Pride, telling a fan who asked if she was going to UK Black Pride: I was supposed to be but I’m so hungover. It was besties birthday party last night.”
