Love Island Casa Amor newcomer Martha Rothwell told the boys she is bisexual and said her most recent relationship was a nine-month relationship with a woman.

In a chat with Lorenzo Alessi and Finley Maddock after arriving in the second villa, Martha said: “My recent ex was a girl. We were together for nine months.” She added: “I’ve had situationships with boys since then. It was good, it was just different.”

Martha, a personal shopper from London, also explained how she approached dating after a run of bad experiences with men.

“I was dating men and they were all just ending terribly. My friends were like, ‘You need to try a girl’ so I changed all my dating apps,” she said. “So when you said ‘what’s your type’ I don’t really know.”

The conversation aired as part of the Casa Amor launch, which saw the boys move to a second villa and meet six new girls.

Before entering the villa, she had also reflected on attraction, saying: “I always say tall, dark and handsome. But in the past, all my exes have looked so different.”

She went on to suggest personality matters more, including someone who can make her laugh and “give you those flutters”.

Why bisexual visibility on Love Island matters

Love Island is ITV2’s flagship dating reality series, with Casa Amor as its mid-series twist designed to test existing couples.

Casa Amor splits the girls and boys up in villa and introduces new contestants, or “bombshells”, to tempt Islanders into recoupling.

The UK series has featured one same-sex coupling in the past, in the second series, between Katie Salmon and Sophie Gradon.

Amber Gill, who won the third series and later came out, has said she’d “love” to see an LGBTQ+ version of the show.

Love Island airs nightly at 9pm on ITV2.
