Drag Race UK season four star Black Peppa has been taken under the wing of an iconic US queen.

Black Peppa, “the Caribbean empress of Birmingham”, is one of 12 queens joining the new season.

Ahead of the premiere she revealed her connection to Mo Heart, who competed in All Stars 4 and UK vs the World.

Mo Heart is like a mentor to me,” Black Peppa told PinkNews and other media.

“She has been so loving hence her name.”
Mo has taken Black Peppa under her wing and helped guide her through the choppy waters of the Drag Race world.

As Black Peppa continued: “We have similar situations in our lives that we’ve been through, and when I told her I’m applying to the show she was like: ‘You got this.'”

The support didn’t stop at motivational words – once Black Peppa had landed a coveted spot on the show, Mo again stepped in.

“She helped me financially, she reached out and been genuinely there for me in more ways than I can even say right now.

“I’m just so grateful because I always wanted a mother figure because my family doesn’t really stay in contact with me as much so having that really meant the world to me.

“I couldn’t ask for a better person to mentor me and get me prepared for the show. No matter how much you think you can prepare, there’s nothing that can fully prepare you until you’re there,” she said.

Black Peppa also reminisced on their powerful in-person meeting with Mo, when they came to the UK on tour.

She said: “It was a whole lineup of POC queens. And I was just there with her backstage, fixing her wig and glueing her lace and tying up her corset. We just met and it just felt I just felt a connection immediately.”

Black Peppa is not the only queen to have sought advice from Drag Race royalty.

Fellow contestant, Le Fil, has a special connection with Drag Race UK season one contestant Divina de Campo, with whom she attended the same school.

“Divina straight away, as soon as she heard, sent me a message in a voicemail going ‘ahhh’ and then basically just said ‘if you need anything, give us a call’.

“She has been there to guide us and say how wild it’s going to be and to just enjoy it because it’s going to be an adventure for everyone.”
