Margot Robbie weighs in on Lady Gaga playing Harley Quinn in Joker 2: ‘Such an honour’

Margot Robbie, who has portrayed the DC villain Harley Quinn in three major movies, has given Lady Gaga her blessing in playing the role.

Joker, which was released in 2019, is confirmed to have a sequel in the works, titled Joker: Folie à Deux. Lady Gaga will co-star alongside Joaquin Phoenix, and is widely rumoured to be playing the role of Joker’s equally murderous and psychopathic partner.

Robbie has appeared as Quinn in two Suicide Squad films and all-female spin-off Birds of Prey. Speaking to MTV News while promoting her latest film Amsterdam, she was asked what her opinions were on the role being played by another actor, as per the rumours.

“It’s such an honour to have built a foundation strong enough that Harley can now be one of those characters that other actors get to have a go at playing,” Robbie said.

“I think she [Gaga] will do something incredible with it.”

Robbie continued, saying she’s always wanted Quinn to be a role interpreted by multiple actors.

“It makes me so happy because, I said from the very beginning is, all I want is for Harley Quinn to be one of those characters, the way, like, Macbeth or Batman always gets passed, you know, from great actor to great actor.”

“It’s kind of like someone gets to do their Batman, or someone gets to do their Macbeth or someone, you know? And I feel like in not so many cases are there female characters.”

Lady Gaga has previously confirmed her involvement in the project with a tweet, but not her specific role.

Twitter lost their collective minds underneath the tweet, with even Drag Race winner Aquaria tweeting: “OMFG”.
