A Welsh MC has been removed from South Island music festival Rolling Meadows in New Zealand after posting a homophobic Tweet and allegedly refusing to apologise.

Rapper Mr Traumatik, whose real name is Marcus Coaxley, has more than 976,280 monthly listeners on Spotify.

The artist, who is known for sexually explicit and controversial lyrics, deleted his social media accounts yesterday (10 October) following backlash from his use of an offensive homophobic slur online.

Organisers of the festival confirmed that they had “taken action with cancelling his performance at Rolling Meadows,” Stuff magazine confirmed.

The festival’s move to remove his scheduled December performance follows a decision from Moles Bath –  a promoter in Bath, United Kingdom – who decided to axe the artist’s shows.

Taking to Twitter the venue posted a statement calling out Mr Traumatik’s “disgusting homophobic comment on Twitter last night (10 October)”.

They wrote: “We wholeheartedly disagree with this hate speech and we do not condone this behaviour. As a promoter of his UK tour we gave him the chance to apologise and he has refused to do so.

The venue went on to say his behaviour is not tolerated and music is all about “inclusivity”, with it priding itself on “constantly pushing diverse lineups”.

In 2021 US rapper DaBaby was dropped from the line-up of Parklife, 2021 Governor’s Ball, Day N Vegas, and Lollapalooza festivals after bursting into a “homophobic” rant about gay people and those living with HIV at the Rolling Loud Festival.

In a bid to protect his career the rapper apologised in August last year and claimed he would “learn from his mistakes”.
