The Bear star Ayo Edebiri and Grammy-nominated musician Clairo have gone viral for performing Charli XCX’s song “Apple” at a recent Sabrina Carpenter concert.

During Carpenter’s second consecutive day performing at BST Hyde Park in London yesterday (6 July), the camera filming the show locked on to Ayo Edebiri and Clairo – real name Claire Cottrill – standing together in the crowd.

Pretending to be surprised at seeing her famous friends, Carpenter questioned: “Wait, who are you guys?”

The pair then pointed at each other with faux confusion, before breaking out the dance routine to “Apple”, which went viral on TikTok last year following the release of Charli XCX’s zeitgeist-shifting album Brat.

Charli XCX invites a celebrity guest to perform the “Apple” dance at each of her shows, with stars including Troye Sivan, Chappell Roan, and Conan Gray all having taken on the routine.

Following Edebiri and Clairo’s “Apple” joke, Carpenter began singing the track, before jesting: “So close, it’s just a different show. But I was gonna try to like help y’all out to make it less weird for you. Are you guys single?”

Edebiri and Clairo then nodded, before Carpenter attempted to flirt with the Bottoms actress: “Ayo, I’m feeling you so hard.”

Edebiri mocked feeling flustered, while Clairo pretended to weep.

“Sorry about the Clairo shade,” Carpenter quipped, referencing an online meme in which fans of the singer-songwriter jokingly interpret anything unrelated to Clairo as potentially being “Clairo shade”.

“I’m kidding Clairo, I love you too,” Carpenter continued. “If you guys are free later and you wanna like do something, then I feel like I might consider handcuffing you. Would you be my ‘Juno’ girls?”

Carpenter then began performing her song “Juno”, taken from her Grammy Award-winning 2024 album, Short n’ Sweet.

Much like Charli XCX’s “Apple” dance tradition, Sabrina Carpenter has taken to handcuffing members of the audience while she performs “Juno”.

Online, fans of the famous trio have reacted with glee at seeing their favourite stars interact.

“Doing the ‘Apple’ dance is kind of the funniest thing they could do in that moment,” responded one fan on X, in a post now seen by one million people.

“It’s giving Disney channel cross over episodes,” a second wrote.

A third lusted: “Ayo is so hilarious I need her bad.”

Ayo Edebiri, who identifies as queer, is best known for her role as chef Sydney Adamu in FX drama The Bear, for which she has won both an Emmy Award and a Golden Globe. She also starred in Rachel Sennott’s queer comedy Bottoms in 2023.

Clairo, who is bisexual, shot to fame with her debut album Immunity in 2019, and has since released her second record Sling and 2024’s Grammy-nominated Charm.
