9-1-1 star Ryan Guzman has got fans going crazy over his latest comments teasing a potential romance for his character on the show.
Guzman plays Edmundo ‘Eddie’ Diaz on the series about LA’s first responders. He stars alongside Angela Bassett, Oliver Stark, Aisha Hinds, and more.
Speaking to Entertainment Tonight on a recent set visit, Guzman was asked about his character’s love life.
When it’s put to him that a lot of the show’s fans would like to see Eddie fall in love, Guzman replies: “I want to see that too.”
Pressed for more, the actor remains tightlipped but spills: “We have something in the works, I don’t want to spoil anything. But, we got something in the works.” He then adds: “We’re sprinkling it in there.”
The romance most fans will be hoping Eddie gets into will be ‘Buddie’ – the shipping of Eddie with fellow fan favourite, Evan ‘Buck’ Buckley, played by Stark.
Fans have been begging for ‘Buddie’ to be romantically linked for eight seasons now, with even Stark calling interactions between the pair “super gay”.
Previously Stark has said he’d be open to exploring the relationship between the pair if it’s “the right story to tell”. Stark’s also said he was “excited” to continue exploring ‘Buddie’ in season nine.
Speaking to Entertainment Tonight on his character’s story going forwards, Stark said: “He’s been through various different iterations of himself looking for different things whether that be one person or [multiple people].”
One clip shown between interview segments shows Buck confronting a married couple (played by real life couple Dean Geyer and Jillian Murray), having slept with the husband and wife separately. And it sounds like there’s more throuple action to come.

“I like that he’s figuring things out and able to go with the flow,” Stark said. “And when he gets himself into various throuple situations it’s not something that he was necessarily seeking but came to him. He’s figuring it out as these things come.”
As for whether Buck finds love, Stark also remained tightlipped. He told ET: “I don’t know about that. I like the idea of Buck looking for things and ever evolving. We’ll see.”
As well as making it clear they want more from ‘Buddie’, fans have also made it clear they want Buck to specifically say the word ‘bisexual’ at some point.
In season seven, Buck also realised that he is bisexual after kissing Tommy (Lou Ferrigno Jr.) – his now-ex boyfriend.
Showrunner Tim Minear recently split the ‘Buddie’ fandom in half with his comments on the relationship. He suggested that 9-1-1 shouldn’t focus on Buck and Eddie getting together.
9-1-1 is streaming on Disney+ in the UK.
